If I were going to evaluate a department at my school, I would assess the Kindergarten team. We have school age scholars ages 5 and 6 years of age. I feel that their school day is too lengthy being that we are a charter school that begins from 7:45 until 4:15, and most students attend after school until 6. The students are not allowed to take a nap and for the most parts they are only allowed outside for a 30 minute recess. By the end of the day the kids are a bit cranky and less motivated to do work. I would like to look at evaluating:

1. Quality Care- will a rest period for the scholars during the day enhance school grades and test scores?

2. Scheduling- How can we modify schedule to allow a rest period for the young scholars?

3. Parental agreement- Are the parents pleased?

I strongly believe that these three elements will help us in determining if adding these specifics will make a difference in the kindergarten scholars’ behavior and change their afternoon work ethics.

In observing Donald Kirkpatrick’s levels of Evaluations I feel that I can use his techniques to evaluate the young scholars. He uses four levels which are:

1. Reaction- How the students respond

2. Learning- What did we the teachers learn by reorganizing the schedule

3. Behavior- What changes took place positively for the scholars and teachers?

We can use Kirkpatrick’s Levels of Evaluations to evaluate is the students were able to sit down and retain more information once the new strategies were put in place. The Kindergarten staff will be able to gain specific information on the topics being researched. We can also evaluate to see if the change has a positive impact on the scholars learning. We can use taxonomic level to survey or determine if the scholars’ behaviors changed during the process. We can also survey the scholars by asking them if they like the new schedule or the old one better.

Intellipath “Al” is a essential tool for instruction. In this day and time we utilized a lot of computers to assist with learning and to enhance long distance learning. Intellipath operates as an interactive computer base assessment for scholars.

It evaluates students’ performance by how many times the students attempts the lesson versus how many questions answered correctly. This may prove to be less ideal in describing the students’ performance capabilities because the students are not physically there to be assessed so there is no real proof of retention versus redundancy.

The advantage of using a system like this is that it is much faster that writing and it provides immediate feedback. The disadvantage maybe that for the auditory learner, doing a lot of kinesthetic assignments may be a bit overbearing for some scholars who are used to hearing lectures from teachers.
